The Five Daily Prayers

Salah is the second pillar of Islam and serves as a direct link between a Muslim and Allah. It is a daily act of worship that brings spiritual, physical, and mental discipline to a Muslim's life. It fosters discipline, spirituality, and a sense of community.

The obligatory daily prayers includes:

  • Fajr: 2 Rakats Fard.
  • Dhuhr: 4 Rakats Fard.
  • Asr: 4 Rakats Fard.
  • Maghrib: 3 Rakats Fard.
  • Isha: 4 Rakats Fard + Witr (3 Rakats).

Men are encouraged to perform these prayers in the masjid in congregation.

Types of Prayers

  • Fard: Obligatory prayers that are mandatory for every adult Muslim. Missing these intentionally is a sin.
  • Witr: A mandatory (Wajib, which holds a rank below Fard but above Sunnah) prayer offered after Isha. It consists of 3 Rakats and is considered a unique prayer.
  • Sunnah: Optional prayers that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) regularly performed.
    • Sunnah Mu’akkadah: Highly emphasized Sunnah prayers that should not be missed without a valid reason.
    • Sunnah Ghair-Mu’akkadah: Less emphasized Sunnah prayers but still recommended.
  • Nafl: Voluntary prayers that are optional but highly rewarding.
